About
FreeFashionInternships.com was created in March 2007 after a seasoned fashion intern decided that top-tier fashion internship listings should be available to everyone, not just those who were willing to pay a membership fee. Using online resources, a blog was launched in hopes of opening up the world of fashion to anyone who has a desire to work in the industry. In less than two years, FreeFashionInternships.com has become the premiere resource for fashion internships with listings ranging from couture to action sports, design to public relations.
As of September 2010, the site averages 20,000 unique views per month, and appears first on Google when searching terms such as “fashion internships” and “fashion intern.”
Carla Isabel Carstens is the founder of FreeFashionInternships.com, a blog turned website that posts internship opportunities for fashion hopefuls around the globe. Her interest in fashion internships stemmed from her participation in internship programs while she attended the University of California, San Diego. Over four years, she interned at companies such as HollieTen, Escada, JANE Magazine, Gucci, Volcom, RVCA, and Seventh House PR.
Born and raised in Southern California, Carla currently resides in New York City and works in fashion public relations. She has received professional certificates in Public Relations and Digital Media Marketing through NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies, and is now attending Columbia University as a part-time student in their M.S., Strategic Communications program.
