Job Title:
Fashion Design and Production Intern
Position Term:
Summer 2009 (with potential extension)
Job Description:
Here is the skinny: We are two brothers who started a apparel line. We know business, but are new to the fashion game and are looking for a young motivated, and well educated fashion student to help us walk the talk. We want a creative student who lives and breathes design. Someone who can join our small team and help guide the the design of our upcoming shirts, jumpers, dresses, neckwear and whatever else you come up with
Work with us to convert ideas to reality with your ability to create sketches, drawings, and digital renditions of our upcoming line. Our first priority is to get your help in creating patterns, and put together a tech pack for our next round of production. Confidence in creating patterns and putting together a tech pack is necessary, and access to fashion software is a big plus. Sewing basics, would make things a bit more fun, but not required.
While technical skills are important, personality is ultimately what will get you this position. We quit our corporate jobs to do something we love, and want people share that passion to join our team. Our office is an open environment in every sense: flexible hours, no dress code, in fact no rules at all as long as milestone deadlines are met. Ideally you will work three days a week, but if you find that you prefer to work fewer or more days we can adapt.
Learn more about the culture that drives Holstee by checking out our youtube page, our reading our short Manifesto below.
Our Manifesto:
This is your life. Do what you love, and do it often. If you don’t like something, change it. If you don’t like your job, quit. If you don\’t have enough time, stop watching TV. If you are looking for the love of your life, stop; they will be waiting for you when you start doing things you love. Stop over-analyzing; life is simple. All emotions are beautiful. When you eat, appreciate every last bite. Travel often; getting lost will help you find yourself. Some opportunities only come once: seize them. Open your mind, arms, and heart to new things and people. We are united in our differences. Ask the next person you see what their passion is, and share your inspiring dream with them. Life is about the people you meet, and the things you create with them, so go out and start creating. Life is short. Live your dream, and wear your passion.
Compensation:
This position in unpaid (only in the traditional sense). There is a strong possibility we may be able to work with your school to arrange course credits.
Holstee is the product of Incubaker (www.incubaker.com), an NYC based think-tank and business incubator and we will do what we can to help you get closer to living your dream beyond the scope of this internship, whatever it may be.
Company Description:
Holstee is a lifestyle apparel brand. Our ecological values are core to how we run our lives and our business. Holstee (as in a “holster” + “tee shirt”) began simply enough with a desire to add a functional pocket to a t-shirt. As we continue to distinguish ourselves as a lifestyle apparel brand, we are constantly innovating new designs that meet our standards for our People, Planet, and Products:
People: We lend 25% of our proceeds through non-profit micro-lending to enable motivated entrepreneurs across the globe in extreme poverty to have the opportunity to pursue their dreams. We believe in fair working conditions for everyone that works for us, and our partners who work with us.
Planet: We are dedicated to sourcing all materials locally, and use organic and recycled textiles where possible to help keep our planet clean and green. As we grow we look forward to pioneering new ways to integrate our passion for this planet into our product designs.
Product: We wouldn’t think about buying something that wasn’t quality, and don’t expect our customers to either. We promise to continue innovating and designing new products and styles, that continue to offer a great fit, comfort, style and functionality.
Today, Holstee continues to grow with the help of its many fans and contributors. We hope Holstee products serve as a constant reminder to live your dream, and wear your passion.
